Founded by Chiranjit Roy in 2016
Natural fibre, shaped by women’s hands, into light and shelter.
Prithvi Crafts — also known as Prithvi Creation — was founded in 2016 by Chiranjit Roy to revive and modernise India’s traditional craft of natural roofing and lighting, and to give rural women a steady livelihood. Today 19 women artisans work with us, Santal Adivasi women among them; for many, this work makes them the main earner in their family.
We work in jute, banana fibre and driftwood — renewable, biodegradable and sustainably gathered. Every piece is knotted, tied and trimmed by hand in our workshops in Siliguri and Kolkata in West Bengal and in Chopda, Maharashtra, and offcuts are reused in smaller pieces, so almost nothing is wasted.
From a single pendant lamp to a full long-drop ceiling or a thatched roof, our work now sits in homes, cafés, eco-resorts and boutique stays across India, from Goa to Rajasthan and from Kerala to the Northeast — and we have stayed true to our promise of being “simply affordable”.

Handcrafted jute chandeliers made by our women artisans

Natural lamps and chandeliers — pendant lamps, the Half Moon chandelier and long-drop ceilings. Thatched roof panels, in jute and banana fibre. Thatched umbrella seating — our signature piece for gardens, resorts and cafés. Thatched tent covers for glamping and outdoor retreats. Driftwood lamps and natural décor.
Every piece can be made to your size and design.
“Our purpose is not only to manufacture products, but to preserve a legacy.” — Chiranjit Roy, founder
